Q: Why don't you use multiple choice tests?
This seems to be the "norm" in the industry. We do not like this type of test for many reasons.
You cannot really see into the mind of the candidate with a multiple choice test. A short answer test allows you to evaluate the candidates ability to express his/her answer based on his/her skill, education and experience. The MaintTest is written using a concept known as Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives. This method tests the depth of the candidates knowledge on each subject. While this does make the test slightly more difficult to grade, the results you get from testing in this manner far outweigh the extra effort.
